Yorgos Papageorgiou
Born in Athens, Greece, 1953.
1970’s : Lives in France where he follows scientific studies in Montpellier and in Paris. He then pursues work as a researcher in the field of material science and optoelectronics.
1986 : Moves to Brussels where he takes on reponsibilities with the European Commission.
2005 : Moves to Beijing where he currently lives and works.

During his stay in Paris he discovers the work of the artist Henri Michaux, exhibited at the Point Cardinal gallery. Fascinated by this master’s work, he starts to draw and paint, focusing on ink wash.
1990-1996 -He follows formal art studies at the Art Academy in Brussels. (Toma Roata’s workshop).

Solo Exhibitions :
1998 -First solo exhibition at the Espace Périple in Brussels including work on paper, inspired by his stay in Paros, one of the Cyclade islands
1999 – Exhibition at the Galerie Synthèse in Brussels, consisting of a series of 20 works inspired by his travels in Yemen.
1999- Third solo exhibition at the Galerie Boycott in Brussels where he exhibits a series of 20 new works.
2002 and 2005- Exhibitions at the Espace Périple in Brussels.
2005 – The Astrolavos gallery in Athens organizes the first major exhibit in the artists’ native town in April of that year, showing 40 works on canvas and paper.
2005 – The Apothiki gallery in Paros, where he lives part of the year, exhibits a series of works painted on the island.

Group Shows :
Besides his solo exhibitions, he particpated in several group shows, the last of which took place in February 2007 at the Astrolavos gallery in Athens, regrouping the work of 13 abstract contemporary artists, some of which count amongst Greece’s most renown.
He has also taken part in the Contemporary art salon (Foire d’art contemporain) in Paris in May 2000 and in Nov 2001.
