展览前言: 

　　这是一部关于传统文化的传承与没落的影片，同时也涉及对当代都市拆迁与兴建方式的思考。

　　我在一个正在拆的废弃园林里买下唯一剩下的一块高两米五十、重两吨半的太湖石。影片拍的是我把这块石头运走的过程：开始是一辆大吊车把这块石头吊到一辆卡车上，然后卡车载着这块石头经过城市、高速公路，一直把太湖石运到太湖边，再由一辆吊车把太湖石吊到一条船上，另有一条船把装有太湖石的船拖至湖中央然后离开，而此时，太湖石突然翻倒，船和石头瞬间沉没湖底——

　　中国自古就有搜罗奇石的传统癖好，太湖石因产自太湖而得名，明朝的文震亨在《长物志图，水石》中就写到：“太湖石在水中为贵，岁久为波涛冲击，皆成空石，面面玲珑。”明朝的造园大师计成也在《园冶》里详细描述了在湖中采石的情景：“采人携锤錾入深水中，度奇巧取凿，贯以巨索，浮大舟，架而出之。此石以高大为贵。”在这部片子里，太湖石已是象征传统文化的一个符号。

　　这部片子还隐藏了我的一个态度，就是对于传统文化，我是反对只停留在表面符号化继承这个层面上的！

　　另外，本片还涉及权利和欲望，这也许是我自己的看法！

　　A Simple Narrative of The Tale of Stone Sinking
This is a film concerning the inheriting and declining of traditional culture. And it also involves the consideration about the way how dismantling, removing and construction are being done in big modern cities.

　　I bought the last Taihu rock of a discarded garden which was being dismantled. And the rock is two and a half meters’ high and weighted at two and a half tons. I shot the course of moving away the rock: At the beginning, the Taihu rock was hung to a truck by a big crane. Then the truck carried the rock through cities and free-ways straight to one side of the Taihu Lake. A crane hung the rock to a boat. Then another one pulled the boat to the center of the lake. At the moment, suddenly the rock turned down. Both the rock and boat sank in the lake……

　　Since ancient times, searching for exotic rocks was a tradition in China. And the Taihu Rocks get the fame from the Taihu Lake. A celebrity of Ming Dynasty called Wen Zhenheng wrote in his Pictures of All Good Things. Water and Rock: that “The Taihu rocks formed underwater are more precious because of their perforations produced from years of waves and water erosion.” And in Garden Rules, the master in building gardens of Ming Dynasty called Ji Chengye also described these details about people gathering rocks in the lake “The men who quarry the rocks would swim underwater with tools, and skillfully tie ropes around the rocks to be pulled out of water by big boats. With this type of rocks, the larger in height and size, the better in quality.” In this film, Taihu Rocks have already become a symbol of traditional culture.

　　This film also hides an attitude of mine that I’m against inheritating the traditional culture only at the surface level of symbalization.

　　In addition, this film involves rights and desires and It’s perhaps just my own viewpoint!
