赵能智不是一个潮流的追随者，他更愿意将时间花在钻研那些让他真正感兴趣的事物和现象本身。90年代以来的中国当代艺术，政治波普、玩世现实主义、艳俗艺术等艺术风格和样式大行其道，赵能智作为一名中国当代艺术家，没有去迎合市场的口味将中国文化或者政治符号引用到自己的创作中去，而是坚持个人兴趣，用人物形象的视觉化表达来进行其对人类精神领域的分析。
北京当代唐人艺术中心举办的赵能智个展将展出赵能智最新的油画及雕塑作品。展览名称"幻觉"概括了其作品中人物的一种普遍状态。临床上，幻觉是一种由于严重理解力障碍引发的心理疾病。患者通常会在无外在刺激的情况下，大脑皮层感受区的自发性兴奋使以往映象活跃化而产生一种虚幻的体验。画中人物正是以这样一种光怪陆离的表象和虚幻的状态呈现，仿若梦魇而非现实。细腻而丰富的笔触展现了艺术家精湛的绘画技艺，再辅以艺术家特有的敏感和洞察力，展现在大家面前的是一幅幅极具渗透力的感性而炙热的画面。
赵能智的艺术来源于他对人特定心理状态的捕捉，而不是对市场的揣测，那些画面所呈现的一种社会性的精神和表情，使得他的艺术在当下具有独特的审美价值。

Hallucination
——Zhao Nengzhi Solo Exhibition
Zhao Nengzhi is a kind of artist that never chasing trends and fashions, he prefers to concentrate on exploring some certain phenomenon which interests him mostly. As a contemporary Chinese artist who has experienced various art schools such as Political Pop, Cynical Realism and Kitsch Art that have once being prevalent forces in contemporary Chinese art scene since 1990’s, he did not follow up those schools that employed typical Chinese cultural or political emblems of that time to cater the market favor, but instead stick to his own interests in studying human psychologies by visualizing human figures in a malformed state. The show which is going to be held in Tang Contemporary Art Beijing will exhibit his recent oil paintings & sculptures, the title of the exhibition “Hallucination” implies the theme of the artworks that refer to a kind of human psychopathic. Hallucination means a sort of psycho disease caused by serious perceptive obstacle, usually people who suffering this spiritual disease often develop illusions or heteroptics or acousma without outside stimulation. The figures in the painting appear in absurd forms and hallucinating state, look like as if they could only be seen in nightmare but not in the real world. The subtle and complicated brush strokes on the canvas demonstrate the artist’s outstanding drawing technique; it combines his artistic sensibility and insight to create some strong and emotional images.
The art of Zhao Nengzhi always comes from his speculation on human mentality and society, but not the speculation in art market. That makes his artwork something unique.
